Saratoga ADU Standards: Your Essential Guide

- ADUs: Maximum of 1,200 sq. ft. or 50% of the primary home’s living area. Basements and attics count toward this limit.

- Setbacks: Follow zoning district rules. For ADUs above existing garages, setbacks can be as low as 5 feet from side and rear lot lines. No setback is needed for converted garages.
- Height Limits: Must adhere to zoning district height regulations.
Legalization of Existing ADUs:
- Existing Units: ADUs established between August 18, 1984, and February 19, 2003, may be legalized under reduced standards.
